Networking

This is split into WAN, LAN, DC and Fault finding...

WAN

Excellent knowledge of MPLS and DIA connectivity, specifically with Internet Solutions (ZA) and Colt and Level 3 (UK).  My IPv4 experience extends from 1992 and IPv6 since mid-2014 (both on site and DC).

I have sufficient knowledge to troubleshoot advanced issues around routing, port filtering, TOS and 802.1Q mostly from a Unix/Linux command line, sometimes from a Cisco IOS CLI too.

I understand the concepts of peering and BGP, but have no first hand experience of these in practice.

LAN

Cisco IOS, with particular experience in my current postion (2014/5) around using 802.1Q VLANs for traffic segregation and DHCP in a telephony context (phone options) and IPv6 statefull configuration.  I would, for instance be comfortable explaining the need for this snippit - (I needed to park it somewhere).

interface GigabitEthernet1/0/29
 switchport trunk native vlan X49
 switchport trunk allowed vlan X05,X49,X51
 switchport mode trunk
!

Linux , with particular experience in my current postion (2014/5) around using 802.11Q VLANs for traffic segregation and DHCP in a telephony context (phone options) and IPv6 statefull configuration.

Data Centre

I've had (colo) relationships with Data Centres on the periphery of London consistently since 2008, at some to the degree that the site managers know me by name. I've been involved in projects including L3's facilities in Braham Street and Goswell Road, but have visited these sites.  My experience is mostly with Carrier Neutral DCs.

Troubleshooting / Fault finding

I make regular extensive use of network protocols analysers (tcpdump, wireshark) to help resolve issues toward the bottom of the OSI network stack.  In particular I have indepth knowledge of HTTP (in studying a DOS) and SIP in diagnosing telephony trunk registration and call setup including solving an ALG development issue with Clavister.

I have been involved in the first (and later) level response of a number of DOS and DDOS attacks incl. a DD4BC extertion attempt.

VPN

I have significant experience with OpenVPN both routed and bridged for both permanent site-to-site VPNs and in a temporary capacity to allow my self to present into significantly firewalled networks for support.

TOS / DiffServ

Familiar with the use of TOS and DiffServ, its' scope for resource theft, and its' proper use, specifically in Voice & Video RTP communication

802.1Q
