Moto G7 Plus
In 2021 I decided it was time to upgrade my mobile from the Samsung Galaxy S5 I'd been carrying since 2015.
I considered the Fairphone and other options, but in the end realised that the Moto G7 plus was a cheaper option with reasonable features, and supported LinageOS allowing an upgrade from Android 9 to 11.
Before starting ensure that you have enabled developer settings, USB Debugging and allowed OEM unlocking
This was my process:
- Unlock the bootloader
- Temporarily booting a custom recovery
- Copying the contents of slot
a
to slotb
- Boot into revovery mode
C:\2TB\platform-tools>adb reboot bootloader
- select “Apply Update”
- then “Apply from ADB”
- On the host machine, sideload the package
C:\2TB\platform-tools>adb sideload ..\copy-partitions-20210323_1922.zip serving: '..\copy-partitions-20210323_1922.zip' (~47%) adb: failed to read command: No error
- Boot into revovery mode
- Installing LineageOS and GApps (if you want it)
Here is a packet capture of my newly installed, first boot, without GoogleApps LineageOS 11. I block encrypted (port 853 DNS) to ensure I have better visability on what devices are doing.
